Evelyn Burkholder entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Evelyn Marie Riley was born on February 24, 1926 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of John Riley and Mary Leonard Riley. The Riley family played violin, cello, flute, Spanish and tenor guitars, piano, and organ and sang at various churches in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, and music was an important component of Evelyn’s life.
Evelyn graduated from Mt. Clemens, Michigan High School in 1944. In 1946, she married David Lowe and attended college with him at Johnson Bible College in Tennessee and Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University) in Marion, Indiana. They pastored churches in Indiana, Michigan, Florida, California, and Texas, during which time Evelyn was active as a minister’s wife and mother of their three children as well as working full time as a secretary in an insurance company. Later in life, Evelyn married Ben Burkholder.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter Dee Ann Sams and son-in-law Ronnie Sams. Evelyn is survived by her two sons: Phillip Lowe and wife Carol of Waco, TX and Rex Lowe and wife Donna of Crossville, Tennessee, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, and by her brother Raymond Riley of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
