Franklynn K. Duiven

Franklynn Karl Duiven, DDS, formerly of Walloon Lake, Michigan, age 88 passed away on September 30, 2025 in Grand Rapids. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 60 years, Lois Clark Duiven, his daughter Elizabeth (Scott) Zuke of Grand Rapids and his son Frederick (Carolann) Duiven of Leesburg, Virginia and also his beloved grandchildren Benjamin and Kathryn Zuke and Peter and Clark Duiven. He was preceded in death by his brother John, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara, of Ada, brother-in-law Harold (Janet) Clark of Gaylord, and sister-in-law Carole Timin(Gary) of Florida and several special nieces and nephews.

Frank was born in Grand Rapids on November 25, 1936 to Harvey and Ruth (Volkers) Duiven. He graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1954, Grand Rapids Junior College in 1956 and the University of Michigan Dental School in 1960. He then served as a dentist in the Army from 1960-1962 in Augusta, Georgia. Frank practiced dentistry in Southeast Grand Rapids, 1962-2002. Frank cared deeply for his patients and the dental profession.

Frank was an active member of these professional organizations: Kent County Dental Society (President 1984), West Michigan Dental Society serving as a member of several committees and Chairman of Public Relations (1972-1975), Michigan Dental Association Ethics Committee 1981-1987 and received the State Public Relations Award. Frank was also a member of the American Dental Association.

Frank and Lois retired December 2002 and moved to their remodeled home at Walloon Lake. While in Grand Rapids, he was a member of Park Church and was an active member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church. Frank was involved in the building of five Habitat for Humanity homes in the Petoskey area. He also enjoyed grandparenting, tennis, downhill skiing, fly fishing and being a garden helper.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.  Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at the funeral home on Monday October 13th from 4-6pm.  Interment will be at a later date at Dyer Cemetery in Bay Township, Michigan.
