Gerald Larsen Obituary

Larsen, Gerald L. of Grandville passed away on March 29, 2020 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Phyllis (Smith) Larsen on July 20, 2014. He is survived by his children, Geoffrey Larsen, (Kimberly Hall Sheeran) and his children Kyle and Jake Larsen, Gregory Larsen, Susan (Larsen) Gee, her husband James and their children William ( Gina), Allison, and Nicholas Gee. Gere was born in Milwaukee, WI December 28, 1930 to Harold and Christine (Eek) Larsen. The Larsen family moved to Muskegon, MI in the mid 1930's where Gere attended Muskegon High School graduating in 1948. Following his graduation, he enrolled at Michigan State College, and became a Life Long Spartan (Go Green) graduating in 1954. Upon graduation from Michigan State College, he entered the army.  He completed his tour of duty serving in Germany. Gere married the love of his life Phyllis June (Smith) in 1957. In 1966 the Larsen family moved to Grandville, where he remained until his death. Phyllis and Gere were very active, they loved taking trips, MSU football & basketball games, golfing, spending time at the lake, boating, working in the yard, playing cards and their family. Gere was employed by the Warner Bakery Machine Company as a sales engineer and remained with the company through many changes, retiring from Baker Perkins in 1988. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Bread of Life Lutheran Church. As we all know at this time of social distancing, a memorial service will be held in the coming months when we are able.  Dad's last few years were very special, trips to the lake, rides in the car and lunch dates with Michelle Blanchard, we can't begin to express our gratitude for your love and kindness. The kind words, thoughts and prayers which have been extended to our family on social media, phone calls and in person have made the passing of our father much more bearable, we Thank You so much.
