Gloria G. Cimitile, 88, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Grand Rapids, Michigan with her daughter Maria by her side.
Gloria G. Cimitile (nee Harding) was born February 9, 1936, to Smith and Doris (Pickett) Harding in Angelica, NY. Gloria graduated as the salutatorian of her class at Angelica High School and at the age of 16 enrolled in St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY working as a typist to help pay her tuition. Eventually, she transferred to Oswego State Teachers College and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She met her husband, Joseph (Joe) A Cimitile of the Bronx, NY and married while they were both students at Oswego. They were married for nearly 55 years until Joseph’s death in 2009. For most of her life, Gloria resided in Baldwinsville, NY, where she taught elementary school for more than 32 years in Baldwinsville Central Schools. Both Joe and Gloria enjoyed traveling extensively, along with ballroom dancing, entertaining and hosting dinners and parties with friends. Gloria loved to read, sing, and play the piano, work on crossword puzzles, and make terrific desserts. Survivors include Christopher (Barbara Ostrowski) and their son, Alexander, Paris, France; Carole (Joseph Cotton), Bowie, Maryland; and Maria (Sheila Grant), Grand Rapids, Michigan. Besides her children, Gloria is survived by her sister, Rosemary Orr of New York State, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
