Gordon “Gord” Lee Hulst, age 77, of Ada, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday March 6th, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Gord was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 15th, 1946, the son of Martin and Eleanor (Sikkema) Hulst. He grew up with two brothers, Earl (Adrian) and Fred (Marcia), graduated from South Christian High School class of 1964, and served in the Michigan Army National Guard. He retired after 30 years of custom home building.
He was married to his high school sweetheart, Carole Jean Oeverman, for 56+ years. They had four children together who all married: Michael and Kimberly (Bunker) Hulst of Norwood, CO, Sherie (Hulst) and Michael Burgess of Alto, MI, Timothy Hulst and Alan Walker of Salt Lake City, UT, and Matthew and Kathryn (Gillcrist) Hulst of Centennial, CO.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Gord was an active member of the North Ottawa Rod & Gun Club and the Northern Bass Association. A caring grandfather, he passed down his discipline and knowledge to his 12 grandchildren (Kylea and husband Evan, Rhece, Anthony, Joshua, Phillip, Jacob, Scottlyn, Yeshaya, Logan, John, Arax, and Timothy). Grandpa Gord was a man of few words. So, when he did speak, everyone listened.
A devoted husband to one, a wonderful father to four, and a loving grandfather to 12, we wish to celebrate a man whose life was dedicated to his family and God. All are invited to attend a visitation for Gord on Monday, March 13th, 2023, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home (4291 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546). A funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 at 1 pm at Impact Church (11840 Fulton St E, Lowell, MI 49331).
