Hannah Marie Puhl passed away at age 30 on August 5, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Grand Rapids on November 2, 1994, Hannah touched everyone she met with her warmth and compassion.
A graduate of East Grand Rapids High School in 2013, Hannah went on to attend Ashland University in Ohio. It was there that she met her future husband, Kyle Puhl. After earning her degree in education in 2018, Hannah returned to Grand Rapids and began a career as a teacher, starting as a substitute teacher in various elementary schools around Grand Rapids and ultimately becoming a second grade teacher at Knapp Charter Academy. She loved teaching, her school, and all her students.
Hannah was kind, courageous, optimistic for the future, determined, loyal and loving. Our hearts are broken, but also so grateful to have had such a beautiful soul in our lives.
Hannah is survived by her beloved husband, Kyle; her parents, Norbert and Rebecca Kugele; her brother, Jacob Kugele; an Old English Sheepdog named Hazy River; and three cats named Brambleberry, Super Bear and Super Nova.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Drive S.E., Ada, Michigan. A visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m., and a luncheon will follow at the church immediately after the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, Hannah and her family would like you to go to the dermatologist . . . right now.
This heartbreaking situation was brought on by an unchecked, malignant mole. Ask your doctor for a referral to a dermatologist. Your insurance will likely cover the exam. Hannah would want you to live a long and happy life. Or, if you already go annually to a dermatologist, you could send a donation to Hand2Hand, a charity that partners with local churches and schools to provide supplemental food to schoolchildren that bridges the gap of weekend hunger—which would be a wonderful way to remember Hannah’s kindness.
