Harold Leroy Harris, age 85, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at home.
Harold was born in Benton Harbor MI on February 15, 1936 the son of Gerold and Barbara (Congdon) Harris. At 16 he entered the army and served during the Korean war. Harold retired from truck driving in 1993 and then became interested in the arts. He made miniature western buildings and wagons, which he donated to a museum in South Dakota. Harold then went on to work with gourds, making Lamps, bowls, chain pulls and many more items. Harold won the National Veterans Art Festival in 2011, winning a week's trip to Fayetteville, AR where they honored the winners of the year.
Harold was preceded in death by his son Byron Harris, May 8, 2020 and his sister Frances Craft, and brother Gerold (Larry) Harris. He is survived by, his wife Vicki, (nee Fisher) ,they were united in marriage on June 4, 1958, daughter in law Deeon E. Harris, two brothers, Robert Harris of Stevensville and Lynn Harris of South Haven and many nieces and nephews.
Harold will be buried in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Services will be held at a later date.
