On December 29, 2025, Hal Reick passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with interstitial lung disease. A cherished husband and father, and respected patent and trademark attorney, Hal is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kay, and his son, Michael (Gayle) and daughter Kristen (Jason Medema).
Hal was born on October 3, 1940 and grew up in Sturgis, Michigan. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in New York City, where his outlook was forever shaped by its culture. Following his military service, Hal attended the University of Michigan where he met his beloved Kay and earned a Bachelor’s in electrical engineering (’65) and a JD (’68). He was a proud alumnus and remained a lifelong U of M sports fan. Hal began his career at RCA Corporation in Princeton, NJ and moved to Grand Rapids in 1971 where he practiced patent and trademark law at Price Heneveld for 47 years.
An avid photographer, seasoned boater, and fierce advocate for his clients, Hal will be missed by all who knew him. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hal’s memory to the charity of your choice.
