Harry Duane De Bonte

Harry Duane De Bonte Sr. passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the age of 92.  He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 4, 1930 to the late Harry and Jennie De Bonte.  

Duane proudly served in the US Marine Corp at Camp Lejeune during the Korean Conflict.  In 1953 Duane met the love of his life, Lucia (Drayton).  They were married September 13, 1958. Duane was a Master Electrician and owned De Bonte Electric for over 50 years.

Duane will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Lucia, his children, Duane II (Myra) De Bonte, Abbie (Mark) Dowden, Scott De Bonte, Amy (Brian) Klein; 12 grandchildren, Duane III, Angelo, Andrew, Regina, Chantel (Matt), Allysa (Jason), Trevor, Tara, Michelle, Sarah (Mitch), Seth and Brandon along with many great grandchildren. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jennie, his grandmother Abbie Venneman, his sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Marion Simington.

The family would like to thank the Corewell Health Hospice Care Team for the compassion and care they gave Duane over the past few months. A special thanks to Duane’s son Scott for being his primary caregiver over the last year.  In the last few months Duane was comforted with the reading of Psalms 23 reminding him the Lord is his Sheperd. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Marine Toys for Tots.   A time of visitation will be held at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Road SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 on Monday, June 26th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  A private family burial service with military honors will follow at Cascade Township Cemetery.
