Jack Frick Obituary

Ronald Jack Frick, “Jack,” passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the age of 73. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Mary Frick, his sons, Chris (Kelly), Michael (Azra), and Jonathan, as well as his grandchildren, Melissa, Emma, John, Elvis, and Marisa. He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara (Al) Lowe, Tom (Debbie) Frick, David Frick and Dan Frick, Mary’s brother Randy (Jean) Young, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greeted in heaven by his parents, Ronald Jack Sr. and Jean Frick, his Uncle Neil “Bub” Frick, and Mary’s parents, Doris and Harold Young.

Jack was born in Muskegon on December 12, 1950.

Jack was a proud graduate of Western Michigan University. He and Mary moved to Chicago where Jack worked as a certified public accountant. In 1975, he moved the family to Grand Rapids and soon began working in the finance department at Amway. He grew his career there, which included a move to England for a year to be controller of Amway’s European operations. In 1996, he became one of the first seven employees of the Van Andel Institute. He served as the chief financial officer, a job that brought him immense pride and lifelong friendships. He retired in 2011.

Jack and Mary were high school sweethearts and married in 1969. They lived in East Grand Rapids for 45 years and Jack enjoyed following EGR sports. In later years, he became a fan of Forest Hills Northern High and Saline High, where his grandchildren participated in sports and band. He was an incredibly proud Grandpa.

Jack was a huge sports fan. He loved baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, and traveled the country to watch MLB teams play home games.  He followed the Detroit Red Wings and enjoyed playing golf. He was a car enthusiast who was devoted to keeping his cars in mint condition.

Jack had a passion for travel, visiting multiple countries with Mary, and he took his grandchildren on Disney World and European adventures. He was always happy when he spent time on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Jack will be remembered as a kind man with a loving heart. He was man of high integrity and prided himself on providing for his family. He was a loving and caring husband, and an incredible brother, father, and grandfather. His legacy will be carried on through the values he instilled in his family.

The family will greet relatives and friends for visitation on Tuesday, December 26, at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Road, Grand Rapids, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday December 27, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton Street E., Grand Rapids, MI 49506 with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Cascade Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
