Jack Adolph Krause of Grand Rapids passed away on Sunday September 20th at the age of 93. He was born to the late Adolph Karl Krause and Janet Seven Krause on February 12, 1927.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Patsy Gibson Krause, daughter Cynthia Leitner and son in law Dr. John Leitner, son Andrew Krause and wife Stephanie, and son Roderick Krause and wife Robin, and grandchildren Rachel and Jack Leitner, Colin, Sam and Jacob Krause, Logan and Anna Corinne Krause, and 3 nieces and a nephew. Jack was preceded in death by sisters Shirley Wakefield and Jill Hauser.
Jack attended school in Rockford MI and Birkshire School in Massachusetts. Following high school he served in the Army at the end of the 2nd world war and with the occupational forces in Germany. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950 and began working at Wolverine Shoe and Tanning Corporation in Rockford. A family organization at the time, he held various positions, the last being Vice President of Manufacturing, when it had become known as Wolverine World Wide. Jack owned Michigan Lanes in Grand Rapids for several years.
Jack enjoyed bowling, golfing, skiing, boating – both sail and power and playing bridge with his wife and friends. He especially liked taking trips with his family, whether skiing out west or bare-boating in the Caribbean. He loved to travel, and he and Pat took many trips to various parts of the world. In Jacks retirement years he enjoyed spending the summers at the family cottage in Northport Point in northern Michigan. He was a long time member of Mayflower Congregational Church.
