James Allen Meurs passed away on Thursday March 26, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born on April 9, 1947 in Morrison, Illinois to the late John and Catherine Meurs. After moving to Lakewood, California, Jim graduated from Valley Christian High School and then moved back to Michigan to attend Calvin College where he received his bachelor’s degree.
Jim worked for Meijer where he started out as a bagger and later became a store manager. After 11 years with Meijer, he spent the rest of his career of over 25 years working as an insurance agent. Jim was a long-time member of MENSA. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed traveling with Ron, especially to the Caribbean, listening to music and was also an avid reader. He was proud of the fact that he had visited all 50 states. After retirement he spent his winters in Florida where you could find him sitting out on the patio reading a good book. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his partner and husband of almost 51 years, Ron Schaver, sister Karen (Sam) VanderPloeg, special niece and nephew Kim and Jeremy Bolker, sisters-in-law Carol Schaver, Bernita Schaver, Ramona (Stan) Roozeboom, Connie (Jim) Bolt, brother-in-law Dave (Mary) Schaver and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
