James H. McClain

James Howard McClain passed away on Saturday July 27, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 25, 1945 to the late Howard and Florence McClain. Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years Christine Thunstrom McClain, daughter Carolyn Coye Cooke, son David James McClain (Kelle), 5 grandchildren, Nathan, Trent, Jack (Piper), William and Evelyn and 1 great granddaughter, Bethany.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jeanne O’Toole.

Jim loved teaching and was a teacher at Grandville Middle School for 40 years. When he wasn’t teaching, he was on the golf course and he loved his time spent in Ludington with good friends and good golfing.  He had a great sense of humor, especially when with his children and grandchildren.  

A funeral service will be held on Thursday August 8th at 11am at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be at the funeral home following the service.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Henry, in Jim's Honor, 5575 Gordon Road, Newaygo, MI 49337.
