James Riegling Obituary

James Riegling of Franklin, Wisconsin tragically passed away on November 2nd, 2024 at age 74. He is survived by his wife, Debra, of nearly 54 years and three children; Coraier Piscitelli of Orlando, Fl, Ryanne (Jackie) Riegling of Troy, MI and Megan (Steve) Swiertz of Mequon, Wi. and many family and friends, including sister-in-law, Jill Carr and close friends Rob and Nancy Prescher.  He was preceded in death by his newborn daughter, Lisa.
Jim was born on August 24, 1950 to Floyd and Adeline Riegling. The youngest of five siblings, including Floyd (Carol) Riegling, John (Celia) Riegling, Lynne (Roger) Vanderzowen, and Marianne (James) Loveland. He was a 1969 graduate of Creston High School and shortly thereafter he joined the US Navy, spending time in San Diego and the USS Sheldon during Vietnam.
Jim and Deb married on November 21, 1970. He was a loving and doting husband, always eager to do any project, errand, task, or trip to Starbucks. He adored her and set the bar high for what a good man is.
Following his service, Jim and Deb returned to Grand Rapids to raise a family where he would also receive a degree from Aquinas College. He was an exceptionally hard worker, having worked in various machinery sales for the entirety of his career. He loved cars, reading, politics and cutting his grass.
He was a skilled carpenter and woodworker, always eager to take on a new project and was known to say “I can make it however you want” which he always did. He kept busy making children’s furniture for Bloomers and Hearts, a business shared with Deb for over 30 years, officially retiring their business just hours before his passing.
Jim was also Papa to seven grandchildren; Joey Riegling, Sammy Riegling, George Swiertz, Penny Riegling, Holland Swiertz, Genevieve Piscitelli and Eleanor Riegling. He was much loved by his grandchildren and they enjoyed spending time with him in his workshop, learning how to use tools, going to the races or a craft show, fireworks, or a Beemer ride. He would come to football and soccer games, concerts, track meets, horse shows, school events no matter how far the drive. His beloved black cocker spaniel, Posey was a tremendous source of happiness and companionship to him. She meant more than the world to him and they were together at their last moments. Jim was a quiet presence and his passing has left an indelible hole in many, many lives. He will be tremendously missed and remembered for how much he gave of himself to everyone.
