James Edwin Werts

Werts, James “Jim” and “Jimmy” joined his beautiful wife Susan, and loving son, Thomas, in heaven on August 15, 2024. Jim, 91 passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was a very kind and generous man. He enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing. He spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Jim was born in Piqua Ohio and moved to Grand Rapids to pursue a college degree. He spent two years at Grand Rapids Junior College then transferred to Michigan State to obtain a Bachelor's degree in certified public accounting. 

He joined the army and was stationed in Monterey California with his wife Susan. After two years he was discharged and moved to Washington DC to work for the US treasury. He and his wife soon moved back to Michigan and settled in East Grand Rapids. He started working and became a partner at BDO Seidman for many years and retired. 

In his later years he enjoyed spending his time with daughter, Amy Justice, and grandchildren, Emily and Seth Zylstra, Alex and Chelsea Justice, and Nicholas Miller, and great grandchildren Lilly, Marvin, Tommy, and Violet Zylstra. He is loved and will be missed. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, 6477 Ada Dr. SE Ada, MI 49301 on Friday, August 30th at 11:00 AM.
