Janet Ruth Gorman, aged 95, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, surrounded by family.
Janet was born in Grand Rapids, MI on October 23, 1929 to Lloid and Orindia (VandeWater) Snider. Janet was pre-deceased by her husband Richard Irwin Gorman, daughter Nancy Ann, grandson Thomas Richard and parents. She is survived by her 3 sons, Michael (Page,) Robert (Betsy) and Frederich (Mariko); 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and extended family.
Janet and Richard’s love story began in their hometown of Grand Rapids where they were married on June 6,1953 and moved to Kalamazoo, MI. In 1960 they relocated to Petoskey, MI, raising their children and becoming deeply embedded in the community. Janet was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as secretary, Deacon and alto in the choir. Janet and Richard returned to Grand Rapids in 1982. Janet reconnected with Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a secretary and choir member, just as she had done in Petoskey.
Janet will be remembered for her faith in God, dedication to her family and church, service to others and her feisty independent spirit. Her memory will live on through her children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent online to the ‘Janet and Richard Gorman Scholarship Fund’ of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation at www.phsacf.org. Donations will continue their mission of supporting the next generation of engineers, ensuring their values and vision endure.
The family is very grateful to the staff of Porter Hills Village who lovingly cared for Janet during the last years of her life. A Memorial service will be held on August 16, 2025, 11:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 47 Jefferson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids.
