Jean Mardell Wrenn (nee Ernst) age 88, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away peacefully December 28, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Jean Wrenn was born in Sioux City, IA on February 18, 1935 the daughter of Leslie and Hazel (Thacker) Ernst. She grew up on a farm in Albert City, IA and attended Iowa State University where she studied math, physics, chemistry and biology. As a freshman she was honored as the college queen and subsequently crowned Sioux Queen. Her brains and beauty helped her win the heart of Peter Wrenn (deceased) and they were united in marriage on September 8, 1957. She is survived by their five children Mark, Mike (Yvette), Martin (Judith), Scott (Stacey), Molly Hunting (Ben), 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Preceding her passing were her parents Leslie and Hazel Ernst, sister Beverly Tillery, brothers Marvin and Ray Ernst, and grandson Andrew Wrenn.
Jean and Peter enjoyed the midwest life living in Iowa, Omaha, Saginaw, Milwaukee, and Cleveland before retiring to Savannah, GA. In addition to caring for her family, her time was spent golfing, playing tennis, cooking, canning strawberries and pickles, and playing bells for the church. She was rightfully proud of her 2 hole-in-ones. She was a great loving mother and grandmother. During her battle with Alzheimers, she was known for her precious smile and kind heart.
A small service for family will be held in Savannah, GA where she will join her husband in the memorial garden at Skidaway Island Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
