John William Timmer, age 56, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2025, while on vacation in Sacramento, California. A resident of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, John was known for his quiet, gentle spirit.
Born and raised in East Grand Rapids, John was the son of the late John J. Timmer and Kathryn Lily (Gemuenden) Timmer. He was a graduate of Calvin University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics, and he later pursued graduate coursework at Grand Valley State University.
Raised in the Reformed Church in America, John’s faith helped shape his values of humility and grace. Professionally, he worked as an inventory specialist and was passionate about financial markets, finding purpose and fulfillment in studying and investing in stocks.
John’s presence in the lives of those who knew him was a steady and reassuring source of kindness and strength. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, Greg Timmer (Marybeth) and Steve Timmer (Paul Bukaweski), and by his sister, Amy Wormmeester. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews: William Timmer (Lauren), James Timmer, David Timmer, Katherine Tomaszewski (Matthew), and Mike Wormmeester.
Friends may visit with John’s family at a visitation gathering to be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, 4-6 PM at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
