John "Jack" H. Matthews

John Hubert Matthews "Jack", age 91, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully under Hospice care on September 24, 2023. Jack was born in Highland Park, Michigan on January 1, 1932, the son of Eva and William Matthews. He graduated from Highland Park High School, Class of 1950 and entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his service to his country, he enrolled in Walsh Institute of Accountancy.  After his graduation he successfully passed the Michigan Certified Public Accountant exam. Jack worked for American and General Motors before beginning his own accounting practice in Evart, Michigan in 1971. He moved his practice to Reed City, Michigan and continued to practice there until 2019. On August 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Sally Wink who survives. Also surviving are their three children, Valerie LaPointe (Jim), Leslie Fiore (Tom), John (Diana) Matthews; four granddaughters, Jennifer Thompson (Mike), Megan Ahlenius (Tim), Sarah Matthews and Lily Fiore; three grandsons, Eric Boekeloo (Christina), Brandon Matthews (Natalie) and Ben Fiore; four great-grandchildren, Brooks Thompson, Greta Thompson, Cedric Boekeloo and William Ahlenius. Private services are planned. For those who wish, memorials in Jack's memory may be made to Rotary International, One Rotary Center, Evanston, IL 60201-3698.
