Justin Clay VanHaven, age 39, of Walker, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2023. Justin was a beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, and friend. He had many creative talents and was adept at digital audio technology and coding. He is survived by his parents, Frank and Sharon (Scripps) VanHaven, his brother, Brett VanHaven, his grandmother, Fleta Mae Scripps, and nephews and nieces.
Justin graduated from Grand Rapids Christian HS, then Cornerstone University with a degree in Music Technology. He worked as an audio engineer for Brilliance Audio, then Amazon, and later as a free-lance audio engineer and editor for several other audio book firms. Justin was also a talented guitarist, arranger, and singer, and wrote and recorded songs, some of which were published online. He was an artist-in-residence with the Contemporary Music Center at Martha’s Vineyard for five months in 2008, and also a singer/songwriter at Wheatland Music Festival.
Justin had a gentle sense of humor and loved family visits and gatherings. He enjoyed making unique posts on social media, made friends readily, and was often a poetic observer of life’s joys and sorrows. He will be missed greatly. If you wish to make a memorial donation in his memory, we suggest Dégagé Ministries.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4pm on Monday August 14, 2023 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 47 Jefferson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
