Karen Ann Massingham, age 62, went to join her dad in heaven early in the morning on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Born at Butterworth Hospital on December 28, 1957, the special daughter of Nancy and Sherm Massingham, she died peacefully from non-Covid related complications at Butterworth. Karen loved walks, car rides, and sitting on our special Lake Michigan beach. She loved playing with different things at different times, newspapers, little boxes, and cozy stuffed animals. She was lovingly cared for at home by her mom and dad for 40 years, until she transitioned to the Hope Network Residential Care System, first at Cedar Lodge in Cedar Springs and then at Boston House in East Grand Rapids. We are so grateful for all the teachers and caregivers who contributed to Karen living the most fulfilling life possible. The last few years have been especially challenging for her and we are filled with peace that her discomfort has finally ended.
Karen was predeceased by her father, Sherman H. Massingham, in 2012. She is survived by her mother, Nancy J. Massingham, and three sisters, Louise “Punky” Edison (John), Susan Camp (Joseph), all of Grand Rapids, and Patricia Lee (Richard) of Dublin, California, seven nieces and nephews, and 14 grand nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at a later date. We are especially thankful for your kind thoughts and prayers in lieu of flowers or remembrances.
