Kelvin Keefer passed away peacefully on May 28 at the age of 85. He was born in Niles Michigan but was raised in Three Oaks, Michigan. His parents were Sylvia and Alvin Keefer. He graduated from Three Oaks High School and went on to Western Michigan University where he got his Bachelors and Masters in History and Political Science. He taught at Rockford High School for over 30 years and was also an Adjunct Professor at Grand Rapids Community College.
Kelvin loved teaching. He enjoyed challenging how students thought about issues of the day. While at Rockford he brought several students to Washington DC on a program called Close Up to learn about how government works.
Kelvin’s hobbies included fly-fishing, golf and watching basketball, especially supporting WMU women’s basketball.
On January of 1963, Kelvin married Maxine Rozinski who survives him. Also surviving him are his two children: Kevin (Deborah) and Kimberly. He has one grandson, Stone.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on June 6 at 2pm. In place of flowers donations may be made to Camp Henry scholarship fund or WMU Women’s Basketball program.
