Kent Jordan

Kent Dolson Jordan, age 85, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2022.

Kent Jordan was born in Lansing, MI on December 3, 1936, to the late James and Naomi Jordan.  He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School Class of 1954.  He attended Michigan State University on a swimming scholarship and graduated with a B.A in Criminal Justice in 1958.  He joined the U.S. Army and served as a First Lieutenant Operations Officer of the U.S. Army Military Police.  After his service to his country, he joined the United States Secret Service. Throughout his career Kent and his family lived in numerous states.    The family eventually returned to Grand Rapids where he was Special Agent in Charge. He retired in 1987.

During his career he was involved in different professional organizations and served as President of the West Michigan Law Association. Kent was a wonderful storyteller and was proud to share stories and fond memories of his career with the Secret Service. Once retired, he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family on Barlow Lake.  Taking everyone for pontoon rides around the lake and taking his grandchildren to Curly Cone were some of his fondest memories.

On September 6, 1958, Kent was united in marriage to Tama Ann Alling who preceded him in death in 2006.  He will be lovingly remembered by his four children, Brent (Angela) Jordan of Grand Rapids, Brad Jordan of Middleville, Bethany (Tom) Townsend of Atlanta, GA and Brian (Katie) Jordan of Grand Rapids, former daughter-in-law Lisa Speet, Middleville; Ten grandchildren, Chelsey (Tyler) Chambers, Haley (Cody) Herbruck, Spencer Jordan, Dakota Jordan, Kaedon Jordan, Bennett (Bree) Townsend, Grace (Ethan) O’Brien, Jane Townsend, Taylor Wheeler and Kate Korpi; 4 Great grandchildren, Kinsley and Emery Chambers, Thomas and Dani Townsend.

The family will receive friends at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 29th.  A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Glenn Dunn will be officiating. Light refreshments will be served immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in memory of Kent Jordan can be made to a favorite charity or organization of your choosing.
