Dr. Kirk Lynn Brink, age 76, of Grand Rapids passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025. He was born July 30, 1949 and grew up in Grant, MI. He graduated from Hope College and completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology from DePaul University in Chicago. He deeply loved his life’s work as a psychotherapist, maintaining a robust private practice until his death. Over more than 45 years, he provided individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy. He was passionate about group consultation and supervision of other therapists. He served as an adjunct faculty member at numerous local colleges, was active in professional organizations, and co-wrote two books.
Kirk is survived by his three sons, Brandon (Aurelie), Aaron (Stacy), and Jonathan (Lindsey), his brother, Mark (Sandi), his nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren, Beatrice and Max. He is survived by his partner, Catharine Walstra, and her children and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, father, Max, sister, Kathleen, brother, Ralph, and former spouse, Jane.
Kirk loved bringing people together, whether through collaboration with colleagues or his long-standing men’s group. He loved art, creating the perfect playlist, and weighing in on lists of top movies. He was a lover of dogs and found great joy in their companionship. He was generous, quick-witted, keenly observant, and deeply funny. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Watermark Country Club. Visitation begins at 12pm and the memorial service is at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Humane Society of West Michigan.
