Lois Fuger Obituary

Lois Jean Fuger, age 80, of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

Lois was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1940, the daughter of Weston C. and Wilma (“Billie”) E. Knaup.  She graduated from J. W. Sexton High School class of 1958.  She spent her lifetime seeking knowledge through formal as well and informal sources.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University, practiced as a financial advisor for many years and later traveled the western half of Michigan and its Upper Peninsula as a sales rep for several educational text book publishers.  Lois was a very proud and courageous woman which was never more evident than during her battle with Alzheimer’s.

Lois loved music and played the piano beautifully, sang in the choir at church and enjoyed many concerts.  She also had a passion for animals, loved many pets and volunteered at local shelters.  One of her proudest moments was traveling to Honduras on a mission trip with her church, at age 70, to present children with books and to read to them.  One of her favorite vacations was a cruise to Alaska with her husband, Ted.  And one of her favorite activities was exploring art fairs with her Ya-Ya sisters.

Lois is survived by her husband Theodore H. Fuger II; daughter, Lori (Kevin) Smith; two sons, Kurt (Mary) Lee, Mark (Bekky) Lee; one sister, Nancy Knaup (Ron) Clevenger; grandchildren, Kenny Smith, Kolin Smith, Kailey Smith, Sarah Detmer, Derek Lee, Travis Lee, Nathan Lee, Daniel Garrett; two great grandchildren, Devin Lee and Olivia Lee; and nephews Daniel Clevenger and Casey Clevenger.

A private family service will be held at Lake Michigan in the summer.  For those who wish, memorials may be made to Green House Homes of Porter Hills or Emmanuel Hospice.
