Lorraine Grace (Riemersma) Boer

Lorraine “Re” Grace Boer, age 93, of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025. She was born July 10, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Leonard and Marie Riemersma.

Re was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and throughout her life, her quick wit, boundless energy, and caring heart left a mark on everyone who knew her.

She graduated from Michigan State University in 1954 and went on to earn her master’s degree from Western Michigan University. Re served as a speech pathologist for the East Grand Rapids School District, where she used her gifts of compassion, patience, and intellect to help children find their voice and confidence.

She married Ronald Boer, who preceded her in death, and was also preceded by her daughter, Kimberlee Boer-Turner, her parents Leonard and Marie, and her brothers Gerald, Richard, Marvin, and Kenneth. She is survived by her daughter Tammy Loud; grandchildren Angela Rechtine (Doug), Katie Wheeler (Jeff), and Drew Loud (Emily Kunkel); great-grandchildren Ava Rechtine, Sam Wheeler, and Hannah Wheeler; and her sister Yvonne “Bonnie” Anderson, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Re lived life full-out. She was an avid golfer, a dedicated walker and exerciser, and someone who rarely sat still. She loved dance classes, investment club meetings, and card games—especially Rummikub with friends and family. She was a devoted sports fan, and a joyful presence with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her as the best lap for story time. She volunteered at Frederik Meijer Gardens, local hospitals, and was an active member of Park Church in Grand Rapids. Re was sharp as a tack, full of laughter and energy, and had a “busy bee” spirit that got things done. She always wanted to know what was happening at the lake or on the farm, and she never missed a chance to cheer on her loved ones.

Above all, family was Re’s greatest joy. She loved deeply and generously and made everyone around her feel known and cherished.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place from 1-4pm on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Watermark Country Club, 5500 Cascade Rd SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Guests are welcome to drop in during the afternoon to share memories and celebrate Re’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Re’s honor to the American Diabetes Association.
