Marjorie “Ann” Berlin passed away February 23, 2020, at the age of 92, in Grand Rapids, MI. She died peacefully, visited and surrounded by the many members of her family.
Ann was born April 10, 1927, in Perrinton, MI, to the late Robert and Louise Harden. As one of nine children, she grew up believing in family and community above all, and dedicated her life to loving and supporting those lucky enough to call themselves her friends and relatives. She graduated from St. Mary’s Cathedral High School in Saginaw, MI, in 1945.
Throughout her life, Ann was inseparable from her sweetheart, Joseph “Don” Berlin, who she married on December 30, 1950. Together, they raised nine children who formed a tight bond and gave her 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom she devoted herself to. As such, her calendar was always full with sporting events, dance recitals, school plays, or graduations, events that she and Don never missed.
Ann is remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, patience, humor, and knack for cards, especially bridge. She was an avid golfer and always looked forward to vacations with her family in Florida every winter. In both Saginaw and Grand Rapids, where she and Don lived the two halves of their lives, large communities of friends sprouted up around them. She was a devout member of St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church in Ada, MI, and regularly volunteered to give communion at hospitals and nursing homes in the area, a sign of her endless capacity for selflessness and love.
Ann is survived by her husband Don, her children and in-laws (Chris & Jean Berlin, John & Rita Berlin, Dan & Karen Berlin, Tom & Kathy Berlin, Patrice & Dave Thomas, Jamie Berlin, Bridget & Chris Oakes, Matt & Beth Berlin and Susie Berlin), her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and brothers (Tom & Mike). She was preceded in death by her son Robert, her siblings (Robert, Richard, Jack, Pat, Jean, and Patrice) and her parents. Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew her and whose lives were made better by having her in them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Saturday March 7, 2020 at St. Robert of Newminster Parish, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301, with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior from 11am-12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert's Haiti Outreach.
