Marjorie Savoie Obituary

Marjorie Ann (Kimball) Savoie of Grand Rapids passed away on October 25th, 2025, after a long and joyful life. A private celebration will honor her life.

Marjorie was born on May 8th, 1930 in Houston, Texas. She attended the University of Houston and graduated with a BS in Education. She began her career as a third-grade teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Houston. During this time, she met her husband, Rudy Savoie. After their marriage in 1953, she retired from teaching to become a homemaker and raised 4 children.

Marjorie moved to Florham Park, NJ in 1969. She was an active member of Chatham United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She served for 12 years on the the board of RISE, a service project of home repairs by church youth for needy families in Stuben County, NY. She also served for many years as co-chair of the rummage sale, and was active in United Methodist Women and Friday Niters. In addition to her church activities, she worked as a volunteer on numerous projects with Habitat for Humanity.

Marjorie lived a full and active life, living 4 years in Australia and six years in Japan. She had many exciting travels and adventures overseas, including launching to new ships while in Japan.

Marjorie was an enthusiastic and talented oil painter. Her paintings adorn the homes of many family members and friends’ homes. Among her other interest were quilting, sewing and hiking. Together Marjorie and Rudy loved to travel, including many overseas countries, almost all of the American states and many national parks Most of all, she enjoyed her family, especially the annual reunion she and Rudy held on Sanibel Island, FL.

A devoted wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother, she was married to Rudy for 70 years (Rudy deceased in 2024). Marjorie is survived by her three sons, Steve, Craig (wife Stephanie) and Mark, her daughter Kathryn (husband Kim Hunter). “Granny “was loved by her four grandsons, David, Tyler, Corey & Taran, her two granddaughters, Maggie and Anika, and her two great grandchildren Carter and Isabel. She was predeceased by her two brothers Bryant & Robert Kimball.
