Marvin John Schaafsma -age 83-, of Schaafsma Heating Company, went peacefully home to be with his grandson Blake Fisher on March 30, 2026. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral, celebration, or obituary. But of course, we did not listen to the obituary part.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He shared 48 wonderful years with his wife Sally. They shared their love of winters in Las Vegas, cruising, working together, and family. He was very supportive of all her volunteer work.
He was a devoted member, and President, of Creston Rod and Gun Club for many years. The Casino Club of Grand Rapids held a special place in his heart. He spent many years on the board, working the Friday Fish Fry’s, bowling and he is even known for starting the Sunday Pot Luck club. In 2010 he became a charter member of ‘Table of Knowledge’. In his later years he thoroughly enjoyed his daily trip to the Club, sitting in his favorite stool, drinking his Budweiser, and playing his Keno numbers. He also enjoyed filling in on Sundays when needed to make a full table for cards with “the guys”. One of his other notable hobbies, including being an avid reader of the daily newspapers, magazines and books (which he was proud to donate to Veterans after he completed them).
In his younger years, he went on Dove hunting trips, many trips to his cabin in Canada, fishing and deer hunting. He had fond memories of teaching Brian and Rhonda how to use a gun and taking them deer hunting.
He looked forward to the many yearly family events but especially the days leading up to Christmas when his ‘Grinch’ emerged for the winter. He was an avid fan and religiously watched both the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions.
He will be lovingly remembered by his Wife - Sally Schaafsma, Sister - Carol Ranville, Niece - Mara Ranville. His blended family of children: Brian & Kristin Healey, Patti & Bill Hughes, Cathy & Kevin See, and Rhonda & Jerry Fisher. He was the cherished Grandfather (Gpa) to Savanna & Drew Farmer, Brandon & Cassie Healey, Travis & Katie Healey, Sara & Josh Keegstra, Zach, Josh, & Nick Derezinski, 4 great grandchildren and several grand dogs.
In lieu of flowers, please consider Beer City Dog Biscuits in memory of Marv and his grand dogs.
He is greatly missed and will forever be remembered. We’ll always Love you, Marv, Honey, Dad, Gpa. You’re with us forever. ❤
