Mary T. Czarnopys

Mary Theresa (Depowski) Czarnopys passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the age of 96.  She was born on July 24, 1924 in Detroit to Helen and John Depowski.  Marys' time growing up in Detroit was working at the DeSoto plant on military planes during World War II.

Mary was an original "Rosie the Riveter”.  She met her husband, Stanley G. Czarnopys during his leave from the war and then married May 30, 1947. Mary then moved to Grand Rapids for all her married life, then resided with her daughter and family in Belmont. 

Mary was a devout Catholic, prayed the rosary every morning and prayed for her family. Mary was very generous with her time and money. She remembered all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their birthdays, anniversaries, and on holidays. She wanted to make sure her family knew she loved them and cared about them and was always thinking of them. She had an amazing memory for dates.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley of 46 years, and her siblings: Stan (Cecilla) Depowski, Joe (Eleanor) Depowski, Virginia (John) Gryden  and two infant siblings.  Mary will be greatly missed by her surviving children: Stan (Sherry) Czarnopys, Terrie (Jim) Kerschen, Jerry Czarnopys, Mary (Mike) White, Greg (Jane) Czarnopys, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 6, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation beginning at 10am at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 6393 Belmont Ave. NE, Belmont, MI 49306 with Fr. Peter Vu as celebrant. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church Mass intention.
