Mary Jo Ward, who loved to be called MJ, was a wonderful mother and loved by many for her warm smile and sense of humor. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3. MJ was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 1, 1940. She enjoyed a long and successful career as a registered nurse at Osteopathic & Metropolitan Hospitals and the Surgical Center, where she made many lifelong, dear friends. After retiring, she enjoyed working at Orchard Hills and the Cascade Roadhouse, where she was the “hostess with the mostest”, along with exercising regularly at the YMCA. She is survived by her son Joel (Susan) Ward, daughter Jennifer Ward, daughter Jill (Brian) Coder, the love of her life, grandson Caden Coder, her sister-in-law, Connie Ward, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by son, Jason Ward, her sister, Kathy Malcolm, her mother, Josephine Chambers, brother Joe Sexton, and former husband and close friend, Bob Ward. The family will receive friends at Metcalf & Jonkhoff from 2:00-5:00 pm on Friday, September 15, with a service immediately following. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers/plants, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Michigan.
