Maxine Fox

Maxine Joan “Mickie” Fox, age 97, of Grand Rapids passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Born on June 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Leonard and Gertrude Bouterse and married Thomas S. Fox in 1955. Together for 67 years until his passing on September 3, 2022, they raised four children making treasured memories along the way.

Mickie lived her life with class, dignity and grace. She passed the same way, peacefully. She loved her family, animals, reading and traveling the world. Her love of travel led to lifelong friendships as far away as Thailand, Australia, Israel, and the Netherlands.

Besides her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; Tom’s parents, Martin and Billy Fox; sister, June DePree; brother, Robert Bouterse; sisters-in-law, Portia and Gloria. Surviving are her four children, Janet Fox Silverberg (Steve), Thomas S. Fox Jr., Julie Ann Fox, and Joan Fox Turrentine (John); Mema to, Thomas Fox Turrentine, Daniel Silverberg, David Silverberg (Ethel Barja), Steph Silverberg (Kevin Rhode), Allison Tunge (Jack) and Kathryn Schafer (Brian); great-grandchildren, Lyle David Rhode, Charlie Maxine and Stanford Tunge, and Emery Lucille Schafer and many nieces and nephews.

Very special thanks to Joan and John Turrentine for keeping Mickie well and healthy after Tom’s passing. Special thanks to caregivers and friends, Sanela, Hannah and Serena for their care and love.

Friends may meet with Mickie’s family on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49546 where the service to celebrate her life will take place at 12 noon.
