Michael P. Kavanagh

Michael Patrick Kavanagh, 62, passed away suddenly on March 19, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Michael dedicated 41 years to the field of mechanical engineering, where his expertise and passion left a lasting impact. Outside of work, he was an avid traveler and hiker, always seeking adventure in the great outdoors. Among his proudest achievements were hiking the Grand Canyon twice and summiting Grays Peak, Mount Sniktau, and Quandary Peak in Colorado. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, including his beloved grandchildren.

A lifelong music lover, Michael had an extensive collection spanning blues, rock, and countless other genres. His appreciation for music was more than just a pastime—it was a passion. He attended many concerts over the years, always seeking out opportunities to experience live performances and share his love of music with others.

Michael shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Lisa (Marsh) Kavanagh, building a life filled with love, adventure, and family. Together, they supported each other through life’s journeys, creating countless cherished memories along the way.

He is survived by Lisa, his children, Chad and Kris (Rogers) Kavanagh of Caledonia, and Cory and Maggie (Tichelaar) Kavanagh of Rockford; his cherished grandchildren, Harley, Virginia, Jackson, and Grayson. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Denise (Cheryl Visscher) Kavanagh of Fremont, Peggy (Hank) Moczul of Bellaire, Barbara Kavanagh of Portland, and William (Pamela) Kavanagh of Grand Ledge and several nieces and nephews including Nichole Dorr and Jenifer Jones, whom he shared a special bond with. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Yolanda Kavanagh, and his brother, Dennis Kavanagh.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Michael’s life will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the West Michigan Trails & Greenways Coalition, an organization that supports the outdoor spaces Michael loved so much.

Michael’s adventurous spirit, love for his family, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
