Mike Ward

Robert Michael "Mike" Ward, age 86, of Grand Rapids passed away of natural causes on Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Mike was born in Grosse Pointe, MI on July 13, 1935 the son of William E. and Marguerite.  He is a graduate from De LaSalle High School and Eastern Michigan University.   He proudly served in the National Guard.

A lifelong retail professional, Mike retired to Grand Rapids in 1997.  He traveled often and built long stays in Nashville, TN and Maui, Hawaii to visit daughters living there.

Besides the love of family, he loved his sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and was a lifelong fan.  Mike loved a cold drink on a sunny day with the Tigers on the radio!  

Mike is survived by his children Teri Ward, Katie Lahti (Mike), Mary Johnston (Gordon) and Susan Bailey (Zac).  He has 7 grandchildren Eric, Sarah, Maggie, Erin, Annie, Zoe and Gage.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Thursday January 13, 2021 at St. Robert of Newminster Parish, 6477 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 49301 with Fr. Tony Russo as celebrant.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8pm at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home and one hour prior to the mass at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Mike’s memory to Meals on Wheels of West Michigan or the Dominican Sisters of Marywood.
