Mildred "Millie" Smith Obituary

Mildred “Millie” Louise Smith, age 100, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday March 24, 2026. Millie was born on August 29, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Ezra Jay Miller and Lulu (House) Miller.

Mille graduated from Central High School in 1943 and went on to work as a secretary at Fine Arts Furniture. She married her husband of 60 years, Chuck, in 1953. Her hobbies included reading, baking, bowling (a league member until the age of 93) and walking every day for a total of over 18,000 miles. She was a room mother at Covell Elementary and an active PTA member for many years. Millie attended Forest Hill Bible Chapel (formerly Eastern Avenue Gospel Chapel) where she was active in Bible studies, hospitality committees and singing in the choir.

Surviving are her children, Brian (Judi) Smith of Wyoming, Laura (Steven) Larink of Three Rivers; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Wednesday April 1 and for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 2, 2026 at the Forest Hills Bible Chapel, 4637 Ada Dr SE. Interment at Graceland Memorial Park. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse.
