Milo Richard DeVries, 87 of Alto, peacefully passed at home with his family by his side. Milo was born October 28,1937 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his father Milo George, mother Fannie, his sister Julie Chamberlain and nephew Stephen Chamberlain. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Abby DeVries (Vinkemulder), his sisters Marian Bouwer (John) and Suzanne DeVries Thompson (Michael), his children David DeVries (Mary), Abby Whiteford (Jim), and Cindy Wolff (Dave). Grandchildren Abby Holmes (Brett), Nikki Mulder (Kevin), Sarah Wejrowski (Scott), Milo DeVries (Jillian), Brennan Wolff, and Myla Watts (Franco). He is also survived by special family members Scott and Karen DeVoll, Allen DeVoll, Mallory Giebink (Marcello), 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Milo and Abby were married June 20, 1959. He attended Western Michigan University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He taught metal shop at Grand Rapids Northeast Junior High. After retiring he enjoyed several years of running a fishing charter service out of Grand Haven and also taught adaptive snow skiing at Cannonsburg and with the Telluride Adaptive Ski Program in Telluride, CO.
Arrangements are being made through Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The family is asking donations be made in Milo’s honor to The Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Camp Henry or Telluride Adaptive Ski Program. A private celebration of life will be held in the future.
