Mary Eva Spillane, known to many as “Mindy,” age 88, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Cascade Trails Senior Living in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She was born on August 14, 1936, in Rockford, Illinois, to Lloyd L. and Neva P. Anderson. Mindy was a proud resident of Grand Rapids having graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1954. After attending Stephens College in Missouri, she took up residence in Grand Rapids with some years residing in Kalamazoo and East Lansing, Michigan. She married the love of her life, Wayne L. Spillane on September 17, 1994.
Mindy worked as an interior designer for many years prior to a successful career as a manufacturer's representative for furniture and home accessory lines. She had a vibrant personality, was very outgoing and loved researching home design and sharing her expertise with others. Family, friends and fellow parishioners of Westminster Presbyterian Church held a prominent place in her life. She brightened every room she entered, was energetic, and had the ability to make anyone smile and feel welcomed.
She is survived by her husband Wayne; daughters Julie (Bruce) Bell and Katherine (Jody) Ball; stepdaughters Kathy (Ron) Gulembo, Tara (Bob) Dalga, Heather (David) Vitta, Jody (Chris) Looney, and Molly (Mike) Walker; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Neva Anderson, daughter Laurie K. Tobias and son Craig S. Durkee.
A private family event will be held to honor Mary’s life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cascade Trails, and/or the Greater Michigan Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Mary “Mindy” Spillane.
