Nicole "Niki" Jean Zimmerman

Niki Zimmerman went home to be with our Lord and Savior on June 12, 2024 after a short battle with metastatic breast cancer.  Niki was born on May 14, 1978 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the delight of John and Sandra VandenBoom.  After Niki graduated from Northview High School in 1996 and attended college at Grand Valley State University, she went on to work as a Veterinary Assistant for 24 years at Cat Clinic North following one of her great passions of working with animals.

On May 1, 2004, Niki married the love of her life, Brent Zimmerman, and they recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.  The two of them were blessed with adopting their son, Jaden, on March 4th, 2019.  Niki was an amazing mother and loved Jaden with all of her heart.  She loved enjoying life with both Brent and Jaden and becoming a mother was one of the greatest blessings of her life.

Niki loved her family and had special relationships with her grandmom and granddad as well as many cousins and other relatives.  Niki also loved her many caring and dedicated friends and loved just being around them and laughing with all of them.  Her infectious laugh always made people feel included and accepted.

Niki was a brave, strong woman who loved the Lord with all her heart.  And even though she faced many challenges through her life, her strength, perseverance, and joy were always evident. Additionally, she had many passions in life beyond spending time with family and friends including animals, plants, outside activities, and swimming.   One of her favorite activities was swimming with Jaden in their pool and the two of them could spend the entire day in the pool playing games and just enjoying each other just like she and her dad would do when she was young.

Niki was preceded in death by her beloved father John.  She is survived by her husband Brent, son Jaden, mother Sandra VandenBoom, mother and father-in-law Dale and Marilyn Zimmerman, brother-in-law, Scott (Kristen) Zimmerman, nieces and nephews, Ansley, Landon and Grayson, and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral service will be at 11am on Monday June 17, 2023 at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.  Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Sunday June 16th at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Niki's name may be made to the Alpha Women's Center, West Michigan Wildlife or Mosh Pit Rescue.

Niki will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, and friend.  She will be greatly missed by many, and she will be forever present in our hearts.
