He graduated from Lincoln High School in Ferndale, MI class of 1951. Norman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war as an M.P. at Fort Knox, KY. After the war he entered the workforce as a tool & die maker and eventually retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 30 years of service. Norman’s lifelong passion of cycling earned him a spot on the team for the Tour De France. Within his lifetime of cycling, he has logged over 450,000 miles. He was once rated the #8 rider in the country as a member of the Wolverine Wheelman Detroit Racing Team. He later served as the logistics coordinator for the Michigan Make-a-Wish foundation cycling events for 8 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trains, and a love of music. In his later years he served as a volunteer for building maintenance at Ada Bible Kentwood campus, earning him the title of Legacy Volunteer. Norman was selfless and giving and a strong follower of Jesus Christ. His humor and laughter will be greatly missed by all. On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Florence E. Busch.
Norman is survived by 3 children: David (Lorna) Standler of Webberville, MI., Nancy (Michael) Standler-Brown of Kentwood, MI and Lesley (Robert) Hiser of Byron Center, MI.
