Pamela Kidd Obituary

Pam is survived by her husband,  best friend, and love of her life, Riley Jensen, and by beloved children, Sarah Kidd, and Matthew Kidd (Saralyn Masselink), stepchildren, Regan Jensen Michaels (Steve), and Randall Jensen (Frances), and four grandchildren, Mason Dylan Kidd, Frances Michaels, Giselle Michaels, and Eliot Kidd.  She is also survived by her beloved sister Debbie Pettit of Portland, Oregon.  Pam was born in Annapolis, MD, on the grounds of the Naval Academy to a Naval Academy graduate who was teaching at the Academy.  Her parents, Paul and Elizabeth Anne Gill both died at age 47.  She lived around the world as her father, a career naval officer, served in a variety of places.  Pam graduated from  Coronado High School, Pomona College, and received her M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, graduating as the only female graduate in her class.  She completed her pathology residency at the University of Washington, and joined the medical school faculty at the University of Washington School of Medicine as the Director of Hematopathology.  She always counted it a privilege to have worked with Dr. Anthony Fauci at The National Institutes of Health as they worked to deal with the AIDS Crisis.  When she joined her husband in New Jersey, she became part of the medical school faculty at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Rutgers University).  In 1998 when her husband was called as the Sr. Pastor for Westminster Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, MI., she joined a private pathology practice serving the Spectrum Hospital system with responsibility for the diagnosis of leukemias and lymphomas, while also receiving a clinical appointment at the Michigan State Medical School.  Her church life was very important to her. She served the local church as an Elder, and the regional church (the Presbytery) as Moderator of Seattle Presbytery.  She felt privileged to have served on numerous education and non-profit boards, including as Chair of the Board of Trustees of San Francisco Theological Seminary,  Chair of the Board of Trustees of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary,  Van Andel Graduate School Board of Directors, and the Porter Hills/UMRC (Brio) Governing Board.  She is remembered by her family for her unconditional love and constant support, her courage and resilience  and how she was constantly finding ways to bring the family together including organizing several amazing overseas adventures.  The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care extended by Paige Hendrickson of The Avenues Program of Porter Hills, the many wonderful caregivers, and by Faith Hospice.  Services will be led by The Rev. Lynette Sparks at Westminster Presbyterian Church; Saturday, July 13 at 11AM, and will be live streamed on the Church’s website.  Friends are invited to greet the family before and after the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her honor may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, Porter Hills Benevolence Fund, or the charity of your choice.
