Patricia Rush Obituary

Our mother Pat Rush was a blessing in all of our lives and now God has called her home. Pat’s impact while on this earth touched many people. She is remembered as a kind, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a sense of humor that led to fun family gatherings at her home in Charlevoix. She shared her life and love of Northern Michigan with her children, grandchildren and friends leaving lasting memories to all. Pat was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to William Leon Wright and Ivalu Lavonne Wright (Johnson). She had a brother, Dwayne Wright (deceased). Her sister, Marcella Parker survives her. Her family then moved to Sylvania where Pat graduated from Burnham High School in 1951 and married the late Donn Rush in 1952. Together they raised four children. She was an exceptional woman that contributed to so many lives in many ways. She was a pioneer in the distribution of braille tactile plate identification for elevators as well as braille identification in public nature gardens for the blind worldwide. She and Donn started the business, “Diversified Enterprises” with the desire to afford those challenged without sight the opportunity to experience and enrich life through touch. It was also important for Pat to give back to her community. She volunteered and was a treasured member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. For many years she also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Holland Home in Grand Rapids; where she last resided. Throughout her life she was an avid golfer, skier, artist, seamstress and pianist. She loved to garden and work around the house and cheer on the MSU Spartans! She enjoyed walking on 9 Mile Point in Charlevoix where she resided for 25 years. She was blessed to live on and enjoy the splendor of Lake Michigan, which she called “Heaven on Earth”. She enjoyed exercising and keeping fit at the wellness center at Holland Home after moving to Grand Rapids. Pats greatest legacy is her family; Bryan (Eileen), Cheri (Paul), Barbara  and Carole (Jeff); 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. She was extremely proud of each and every one of them and loved them deeply. Memorial gifts may be sent to either St. Matthew Lutheran Church, https://www.stmatthewgr.com and or Mile Square Church-Hoboken where her grandson Matt serves as Pastor, https://www.milesquare.church and click the donate button.
