Plonia Swets

Plonia Swets (nee: Kersten), age 90, passed away on September 1, 2024.  She was born on April 16, 1934 in Rotterdam and spent the war years in Zeeland, Netherlands. She emigrated to the USA with her family in April 1949 to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she met Jack R. Swets  and married him in September of 1954.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, an infant son, G.H. Swets, and a daughter, Cynthia P. Moelker. Surviving are her children, Gerrit (Mary Jo) Swets, Susan (Jim) Teunissen and Jeffrey (Carole) Swets.  She has seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters: Cathie Atkinson and Pauline (Jerry) Timmer and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11am on Friday, September 6 at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel.  The family will greet friends on Thursday from 3 to 5pm and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary [PRTS] 2965 Leonard Street Northeast, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
