Richard Allen Murley, 86, of Ada, Michigan passed away on March 27th. He had a huge heart, kind and caring soul with a never ending sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband to his wife Connie of 63 years. He was a nurturing father to his children, Cindy (Mike) Teska, Catherine (Greg) Kuzma, Mike (Sue) Murley and Rich (Patti) Murley. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren, Brandon, Ben, Zack, Cris, Darrell, Rachelle, Karson, Jada, Grayson, Tanner and 6 great-grandchildren. All were very special to him. He’s survived by his sister Helen Kolger of Texas and his brother, Tom Murley of Virginia.
Richard was a graduate of Purdue University, became a professional football player with Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. He worked as a salesman for his father-in-law at Layman Welding Supply and Gases and purchased the business when Dudley Layman passed. Three of his children worked for him for many years. He was a member of the Shriners, National & American Welding Society and Rotary Club of GR.
We are all very appreciative of the wonderful care he received by Emmanuel Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be directed to Emmanuel Hospice or Grand Rapids Symphony. Celebration of his life will be pending to a future date.
