On October 31, 2023, the world bid farewell to Robert George Bacon, a man who embodied the essence of a loving father, devoted employee, and a lifelong learner. He peacefully passed away at the age of 65, leaving behind cherished memories and an indelible legacy. Born and raised in the scenic town of Petoskey, Michigan, Robert's early years were marked by his natural curiosity and zest for life. After briefly exploring the United States and the Caribbean following his high school graduation, he eventually found his way to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In Grand Rapids, Robert embarked on a fulfilling career at Toyota of Grand Rapids. From the start, he displayed exceptional dedication and expertise, steadily ascending the ranks until he assumed the prestigious role of service and parts director. For over three decades, he graced the automotive world with his unwavering commitment to quality and outstanding customer service. Later in life, Robert's interests evolved as he developed a deep-seated passion for collecting Indian artifacts and Eskimo carvings. This newfound fascination became a cherished part of his life, enriching his character even further. Beyond the realm of work, Robert relished in the company of family and friends, sharing his enthralling tales of his collectibles and hobbies. His children held a special place in his heart, and he took great pride in speaking of their accomplishments. With a heart full of kindness and compassion, Robert left an indelible mark on all those who crossed his path. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and colleagues alike.
Robert is survived by his children, daughter Jennifer Lynn Merritt and son Robert George Bacon Jr. His beloved mother, Nancy Jane Bacon (Harper), who passed away in 1987, was a source of inspiration and love throughout his life. Although his father, Robert Carl Bacon, passed away in 1988, his memory lives on. His brother, Jeffrey Bacon, has also passed away, but his memory endures in the hearts of those who knew him. Robert leaves behind a legacy to be celebrated by those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Gathering in honor of Robert will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Metcalf & Jonkhoff in Grand Rapids, Michigan. On the following day, Saturday, November 11, 2023, burial will take place at noon at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Corewell Health Foundation West Michigan Meijer Heart Center.
In the tapestry of life, Robert George Bacon's thread was woven with love, dedication, and a passion for learning and collecting artifacts. His memory shall forever reside in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, a testament to a life well-lived.
