Shirley Klein

Shirley A Klein, age 90 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2025, after a brief hospitalization. Shirley was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to George and Anne Humphrey on November 30, 1934. She graduated from Central Highschool and went on to marry her Highschool sweetheart, Thomas E. Klein August 25, 1956.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents, George and Anne Humphrey and her beloved husband “Tommy” Klein. She is survived by her four children: Jeffrey, Kathryn, Laura McCray (Kevin) and Thomas Eric (Stephanie). Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, loved beyond measure: Robbie Estes (Nina), Sophia Hufford (Ryan), Alex, Ryan, and Tyler Klein, Killian and Jaden McCray. 

Shirley was the best daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed a long and beautiful life with her family, living it to the fullest and spreading love and light wherever she went. People meeting her for the first time instantly fell in love with her quick wit, positivity, and warm personality. No one could resist her sweet smile.

Shirley was an avid golfer, playing with some of her best friends in the women’s league at both Blythefield GCC, and Naples Heritage in Naples, Florida. She enjoyed reading, baking, traveling with her family and friends, and any opportunity to play a "friendly" game of cards. Bridge, Kings in the Corner and Gin Rummy, being among her favorites. She touched so many lives and is already greatly missed.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 2 PM, at Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Frederik Meijer Garden and Sculpture Park, and the Humane Society of West Michigan.
