Stephen J. Gier

Our beloved husband and father, Stephen James Gier passed on to be with God on Saturday August 23, 2025 at the age of 72. He was born on February 11, 1953 in Long Beach California to the late James Gier and June Paulson. Steve is lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Iva Gier, daughter Emily Gier. He was preceded in death by his sister Lorna Dillon and brother Frank Dillon.

Steve graduated from the University of Redlands in 1975 with a BA in Fine Arts.  From an early age he demonstrated a God-given talent for drawing, painting and cartooning. After college he jettisoned his talent into graphic arts, preferring to work in print media.

Having made a decision as a teenager to put his trust in Christ, after college Steve followed the call into ministry. He joined Campus Crusade for Christ (now called Cru) and joined their production team as a graphic artist where he put his artistic talent to work helping to spread the gospel. Eventually he became the art director for Athletes in Action Magazine, then Sports Spectrum Magazine, which is still a thriving ministry today. In 1991 he moved his family Grand Rapids, Michigan to work with Our Daily Bread Ministries. He was still working on projects at ODB at the time of his death. Steve was also committed to ministry through participating in and leading Bible studies. Although soft spoken he lead with kindness and wisdom.  

Steve was a quiet person who spoke softly. If you were lucky enough to sit next to him he kept you laughing with his humor and wit.  He was quite mechanical and loved working on his car and anything else with moving parts.  He also enjoyed watching movies - a favorite pastime with Iva and Emily.

Steve loved his family. He was a great dad to Emily and a loving and caring husband to Iva. He will be greatly missed. His memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 4th at Ada Bible Church Cascade Campus, 8899 Cascade Rd. SE, Ada MI 49301 with visitation for family and friends beginning at 10AM, Memorial Service at 11AM followed by a luncheon reception. Memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ).
