Susan Joan Chaffee aged 88, passed away peacefully Friday, August 18, in her home in Grand Rapids MI.
Susan was the daughter of Burt K. Chaffee and Frances Birss Chaffee. Susan attended a one room school house in her early school days and graduated from Rockford High School, where she was also Homecoming Queen. She attended The University of Michigan for her bachelors degree, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and made many life long friends. She continued her education with a masters degree from The University of Iowa.
Susan was an educator at heart, worked for and retired from Kent County ISD as a school psychologist. Many families and children benefited from her expertise in child development and learning. Susan was especially passionate about reading and developed a children’s reading program. She loved German Shepherd dogs and always had at least one in her life! She grew up loving the beauty of the upper peninsula and spent many summers there with her parents, Frances and Burt Chaffee who had built and sold Chaffee Log Cabins near Munising MI. Susan was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Susan was preceded by her parent Burt K. Chaffee and Frances Birss Chaffee and her brother, Burt K. Chaffee Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Pandora (Dori) Davis of Marco Island FL. Dori is married to Randall K Davis; grandchildren Lindsey Davis and Parker Davis; her lifelong first cousin Sandra Elgland Clemens (Ada,MI) and her spouse Fred Clemons Jr.

The family will have a memorial graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 1:00pm.
