Susanne Remes

Susanne Sklar Remes was born in Philadelphia, PA, July 27, 1933. She is the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Saxe) Sklar, and the sister of Michael (Ruth) Sklar of Chicago. She graduated from Olny High School, in Philadelphia, and attended Penn State University, as well as Michigan State University.  She married William Remes (deceased), in 1953. She is survived by her 4 children, Geoffrey (Linda) Remes, Dede (Gilbert) Schmidt, Sari (David) Kelly, Jonathan (Cheryl) Remes, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and many cousins.  Sue was an active participant in the arts, theater, painting, and art education. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and participating in community events. Her work as docent at Meijer Gardens and teaching in an art program for Hispanic children, gave her much joy. Her creative spirit and distinctive style set her apart.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2022, 11:00 AM at Temple Emanuel, 1715 Fulton St., Grand Rapids, Michigan.  For those who wish, memorials can be made to Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids Art Museum or Temple Emanuel.
