Theodore H. Fuger Jr.

Theodore Hall Fuger Jr., age 94 of Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Theodore Hall Fuger Sr. and Virginia (Doyle) Fuger and was raised in Grosse Pointe Farms with his brother Brenton (Beau) Fuger. He attended Yale University (Navy ROTC) and was the coxswain on the rowing team, graduating in 1953. He also climbed Mount Blanc during a summer break, an accomplishment he was proud of the rest of his life.  Ted served four years in the US Navy, flying as a member of Seaplane crew VP-48. He married his first wife Mary Meade Phelan in 1954. He obtained his MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, settling in East Grand Rapids in 1964.  Mr. Fuger had a long successful career in financial services serving as a securities analyst and investment advisor most recently with Robert W. Baird & Co. and Calder Investment Advisors.

Ted married Lois Knaup in 1989 and lived in Spring Lake for many years. They enjoyed traveling including trips to Florida, a cruise to Alaska and an excursion down the Snake River. He had a lifelong love of boats, including days out on Spring Lake and Lake Michigan and building ship models. Ted also loved dogs including his and Lois’s most recent one, Mini. Mr. Fuger was a member of The University Club, Yale Club of Western Michigan and the CFA Society of West Michigan. He was also very active in charitable causes through St. Mary’s of Spring Lake. 

Ted was predeceased by his wife, Lois Fuger in 2021. He is survived by his four children, Marie Fuger of Grand Rapids, Theodore (Laura) Fuger of Elmhurst, IL, James (Kay) Fuger of Pennington, NJ, John (Kathy) Fuger of Grand Rapids, Michigan, seven grandchildren, sister-in-law Barbara Fuger of Dover, OH and many Fuger cousins. He is also survived by Lois’ children Lori (Kevin) Smith, Kurt (Mary) Lee and Mark (Bekky) Lee and their families.

Memorials may be made to the UMRC Porter Hills Foundation. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday August 22, 2025 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1449 Wilcox Park Dr. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
