Thomas Warren Pierson passed away Monday June 12, 2023 in Grand Rapids Michigan at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dr. Mary Pell; daughter, Laura Zimmermann and granddaughter, Courtney, of River Falls, WI; son, Michael (Michelle) Pierson and granddaughters, Natalie and Isabelle, of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Taylor (Jason) Neuhouser of Grand Rapids, MI; brother, Norm (Margaret) Pierson and niece, Beth and nephew, Neil; and his twin brother, Jim Pierson, and nephews Tommy and Josiah.
Tom was born on April 8, 1944 in Grand Rapids. After completing his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, Tom spent 41 years working in tool and die and computer programming for General Motors. Tom was an avid musician and music lover. His love of music ultimately led him to the Calder City Concert Band after he retired, where he played French horn. He also was an avid woodworker and handyman, Tom was known to “fix” things that were not even broken. He had a legendary, dry sense of humor and was always welcoming and lively with everyone he encountered. Above all, Tom was a loving and devoted husband and father who prioritized his family. He had a big heart for animals, and his warmth, love and kindness will be missed dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 21, 11:00am at Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20 from 5 – 7pm at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 AM the day of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Tom’s honor to the Humane Society of West Michigan or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
